What would happen if a war goes on for a year?
In February 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine and took Ukraine’s land more. This started the biggest war in Europe since World War II. The war caused many people to leave their home and many people died. According to the BBC, Russia used 948 drones in a big attack on Ukraine, hitting many cities and causing significant damage. Also according to Global Conflict Tracker, Russia gained almost 5,000 square kilometers of Ukraine’s territory in 2025. Russia is still attacking cities in Ukraine, while Ukraine is using drones to target Russian oil infrastructure and military sites.
UNHCR says more than 42,000 Ukrainians have been hurt and killed, including 2,500 children. Also, many attacks from Russia have damaged over 2.5 million homes.
As of now, in April 2026 the war is still continuing with the serious fighting. The reason that they keep fighting is because the European Union strongly supports Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Because of these problems, many people in Ukraine are struggling to live normal lives. They are facing danger every day. They are losing their houses, family, and even their safety. For the education problems, more than 340 schools in Ukraine are damaged and destroyed because of the war. So, many children can not go to school freely, can not learn safety and also it is hard to protect the children in the school.
If the longer war continues, it will keep causing much harder life to people. It could damage a lot of houses, harm more children, and emotional impacts also will be worse.
In conclusion, the war in Ukraine caused large damage such as, destroyed homes, taken free lives and Ukrainians’s daily lives also has been destroyed. If the war continues, the situation for the children and families will be worse. It is important to pay attention and help them or support them to be much safer.
